Taken captive in 1882, accused of being a British spy, Adelard Huxley faces execution. He writes a letter to his mother, knowing it may be his only opportunity to tell his side of the story and convince her of his innocence. He tells her of the Syrian merchant he befriended in London and how this man turned all his assumptions about Islam upside down. Unable to find answers to his questions at home, heartbroken by unrequited love and family turmoil, he runs away to the Arab world of the Ottoman Empire, not knowing that the tectonic plates of Middle East politics are about to unleash an earthquake of historic magnitude, still less that he will find himself at its epicentre.

A non-fiction memoir of my life as a stay-at-home-dad, that will make you both laugh and cry! Situationally comedic anecdotes are balanced with the raw heartache of hopelessness and feeling like a failing parent. This is a window into the parenting life that is too often hidden away behind closed doors.

If you are the parent of an autistic child, this book is a message of solidarity and empathy that I hope will encourage you and reassure you that you are not alone. I also weave-in the nuggets of wisdom and learning that I wish I had been told so many years earlier.

And finally, this book is a celebration of the wonderfully neurodivergent minds that enrich our world, and a call for ever more neuroinclusive communities.
